Sustainability partnership brings first all- electric home to holiday park in Cumbria
12 March 2024The first all-electric home has been unveiled at a holiday park in Cumbria in a partnership between industry sustainability leader Willerby and the site’s owners.
The all-electric Dorchester model, built by leading holiday homes manufacturer Willerby, has pride of place on a stunning lakeside plot at North Lakes Country Park, near Silloth, close to the Cumbrian coast.
Willerby All-E specification
Willerby launched its pioneering all-electric holiday home specification last September and Willerby All-E models are now being located at holiday parks across the UK as operators embrace the opportunity to boost their green credentials and offer even more sustainable staycations.
Luxihomes Ltd, owner of North Lakes Country Park, is investing significantly in sustainability initiatives at the 60-acre holiday park, which is owners-only and open all year round.
Four years ago Luxihomes completely upgraded the park’s electricity infrastructure in preparation for electric holiday homes to be located there in future.
Now, with Willerby’s premium All-E Dorchester having a prime plot beside the 22-acre lake at the park, the sustainability vision has become a reality.
First in Cumbria
Willerby Business Development Manager Gemma Pudsey said: “This is the first of our all-electric models to be sited in Cumbria, which is one of the UK’s leading holiday park locations.
“We are now seeing Willerby All-E holiday homes being rolled out to sites across the country as operators seize the opportunity to enhance their holiday parks with the industry’s most sustainable models.
“What makes the Willerby All-E specification so unique is that it means holiday homes powered solely by electricity can be sited on the majority of holiday parks nationally. Until now, that has simply not been possible.
“North Lakes Country Park has been an important partner for Willerby for a number of years and we’re delighted to be working with a holiday park which is forward thinking in both the investments it is making and the practical steps it is taking to reduce its environmental impact and promote sustainability.”
Intelligent technology is a game changer for the industry
Developed by Willerby’s in-house technical and product development teams, Willerby All-E was launched at the Great Holiday Home Show in Harrogate.
The innovation is a green game-changer for the industry, reducing reliance on gas and addressing the significant challenge of switching to cleaner and greener energy when electricity supply to holiday parks is limited, with most pitches capped to a maximum 32A supply.
The Willerby All-E system uses intelligent technology to monitor and optimise electricity usage at all times, to avoid the supply being exceeded.
The Willerby All-E Dorchester at North Lakes Country Park boasts its own decked area, sitting over the lake, as well as a dedicated electric vehicle (EV) charging point.
Latest in a series of sustainability investments
Introducing the Willerby All-E Dorchester is the latest in a series of sustainability investments at North Lakes.
Alongside upgrading the electricity infrastructure, the holiday park has also invested £100,000 in a new water treatment plant, minimising the environmental impact of waste water disposal.
North Lakes has also added EV charging stations on site, both for general public use and some specifically for owners.
Karl Smalley, Sales Director of Luxihomes and North Lakes Country Park, said: “We made a major investment in our electricity supply back in 2019 with a view that the industry was changing and to future-proof the site. That paved the way for us to work with Willerby to bring this all-electric model onto the park.
“We’re proud to have the first Willerby All-E model on any holiday park in Cumbria and to have reinforced our excellent relationship with the leading holiday home manufacturer for sustainability.
“This premium Willerby All-E Dorchester is a statement from us that we’re committed to investing in and improving the site, in terms of both quality and sustainability.
“Looking ahead, we expect to see more all-electric holiday homes on our park. The word is getting out now that the Willerby All-E is on the market and available and, crucially, that it is compatible with a 32 amp electricity supply.”
North Lakes held a special unveiling event for the Willerby All-E Dorchester holiday home, inviting owners at the park and special guests to visit it.
