Read on to find out why you should visit a showground, how to prepare for a showground appointment, and what to expect when you’re here.
Why visit a showground?
We always recommend visiting a showground to anyone considering buying a holiday home. This is because buying a holiday home is a big purchase and you want to be 100% sure that you are making the right choice.
A showground is the best place to view Willerbys as there’s a wide range of models in one place. You can also ask our expert team any questions you may have, plus there’s nothing better than seeing a home in the flesh and being able to sit down, open drawers and cupboards and walk around to really get a feel for the home.
‘When you visit a showground we give you space, time and peace to make decisions at your own pace, even better so you don’t need to decide there and then, you can go home and have a think about things’ - Scott, Livingston Showground Manager
How to prepare for a showground appointment
There are a few things we recommend doing and thinking about before you visit a showground that will help you during your visit and in the process of purchasing a holiday home.
Our Livingston Showground Manager, Scott, says, ‘My number one recommendation to anyone considering visiting a showground is to do your research first and identify your location, park and budget. If you chose your model first then you could potentially choose the wrong home for your chosen space.’
Think about your budget
It’s important to think about and agree on a budget you want to spend on a new holiday home before visiting a showground, this helps us point you in the right direction of what models to look at to best suit your budget.
Find a park and plot
We recommend choosing a park and plot before visiting a showground, this is because finding your perfect park is most important. This is where your holiday home is going to be based and where you are going to be making memories with your family and friends so you’ll want to make sure the plot, park and location are right for you.
When choosing a park you need to consider:
- Travel time to and from your park - This often goes hand in hand with how you are planning to use your holiday home. If you vacation for weeks at a time you may be willing to travel further than someone who takes shorter weekend breaks.
- The type of park - Is it seasonal or open all year round? Does it have a residential license? Is it family-friendly or adults-only?
- Facilities at the park - Are you looking for evening entertainment and an onsite pool? Or do you prefer a quieter life with a small onsite shop?
- The local area - Do you prefer hot summer days at the beach or long strolls through the countryside? Other things worth considering include do you want to be within walking distance of a pub or town? And is access to public transport essential for you?
- The plot location - This really is a case of preference. For some they dream of a scenic view, others want to be close to the onsite facilities such as an onsite pub, and some people simply aren’t bothered at all as long as it has space to accommodate their dream Willerby.
- Size of the plot - Your plot size will dictate which homes are suitable for you to purchase. The bigger the plot the bigger the holiday or lodge.
- Has the park got the correct licenses? - This is all about making sure your park has the correct licenses to allow you to use your home just the way you want. Does the park have a 12-month licence meaning you can enjoy your holiday home even in the winter months? Does it have a residential license meaning you can live in it all year round?
We also recommend speaking to a few current owners of holiday homes on the park too.
‘By choosing a park and plot before visiting a showground it means that when you are looking around homes you can also then consider what your view would be from your home which is very important’ - Scott, Livingston Showground Manager.

What to do whilst you’re here
- When you get here you have the option of browsing around yourself or having one of our team come along with you.
- To get the most out of your appointment it’s key to identify your preferred budget and size. If you let our team know these details then we can point you in the right direction of which homes to focus on.
- Sit on the sofas, open cupboards, lay on the bed, and really get a feel for the model. At the end of the day buying a holiday home is a big purchase so you want to make sure it’s the right home for you.
- Take your time - don’t rush in and out of each model, have a good look around the home.
- When you’ve had a look once, have another look around the homes to remind yourself of your favourites as it’s easy to forget which home was which when you look at so many. Our top tip is to pick up a brochure at the start of your visit and fold over the pages of the models that you like the best.
- Having a brochure with you when looking around the homes allows you to see exactly what comes as standard and what is an optional extra in that model.
- Pop back into the showground office after having a look around and we’ll get a hot drink ready for you. This is the perfect time to sit down with our team and chat making sure you get the answers to any of your questions.
- Forgot to ask a question? Don’t worry our team is always on hand via email, over the phone or you can even pop back for a second look at a later date.
Showground FAQs answered
We are always happy to answer any of your questions regarding our homes so make sure you make a list before you come but here are some questions people often ask whilst at the showground.
Q - What changes can I make to the home?
A - The only changes that can be made to the home are by adding optional extras. Structural and design changes cannot be made.
Q - What’s the availability of models?
A - You need to contact your selected park or distributor regarding the availability of specific models as it is them you are purchasing the home from. They often have available stock or models on order with us, they are also able to speak to their area sales manager regarding the availability of models and get you a more accurate timeframe.
Q - Can I purchase a home directly from Willerby?
A - Unfortunately not. We only sell to the trade, a network of parks and distributors, so it is them you purchase a home from. The holiday home industry is similar to the car industry, we are the manufacturer and you purchase from the dealership.
Q - If I don’t purchase the home directly, who do I purchase it from?
A - If you are looking for a holiday home based on a park it would likely be them you’re purchasing it from however if you are looking for a holiday home on your own land then you would need to contact your local Willerby Distributor.
Q - Can I come back to measure some spaces?
A - Yes of course you can, we definitely recommend popping back and getting any measurements before you take ownership of your own holiday home. However, we don’t have every home in every size available to view so please double-check that we have the right model and size available first. A fully charged phone with a camera and a tape measure are often great tools to bring with you to your appointment.
Q - How long will I have to wait until I receive the home?
A - You need to speak to the park or distributor you are purchasing the home from for an expected delivery date. This is because it is them that arrange the transportation and collection date from ourselves. The amount of time also depends if the home is waiting to be built at our site, is from our stock or the park or distributors stock.
